Stinky Filthy Kids!

I remember before having children and seeing other kids caked in mud and thinking ‘why would you let you child get that mucky, what’s the point?’
I started taking Riley to a church stay and play group in Whitstable when he was about 1, I remember this one time he tipped a whole bucket of paper upside down, I so apologetic. The helper and another Mum said to me not to worry and that at the end of the day everything could be cleaned up. The most important thing is to let your child explore and to have fun.

I still didn’t agree back then as I was all about preventing the ‘problem’ from happening to save the time clearing up the mess etc.

Now I’m all about the mess! Let the kids and dog run riot in and out the house with their shoes on, pull everything out from my cupboards and empty all the toys out of the boxes onto the floor. I leave all the dishes piled up in the sink till the end of the day too. I let the kids explore in the mud, water and anything else they can get their hands on in the garden. I’m turning out to be a rather chilled out Mumma.

At the end of the day the kids both go in the bath and then into some fresh pjs and I hoover and mop the house and open all the windows and doors to air the house out.

Yes I’m tired out and yes I probably bring on more cleaning than I have to! But just like that advice I was given almost 2 years ago ‘everything can be cleaned up’ the kiddies are growing up so quickly! I don’t want to look back thinking I ever held them back.

What are your views on this? Are you a fun messy Mum?

I agree totally, let them get mucky and just ensure they are clean before they snuggle into their beds.
